Dr. W. A. Proudfoot Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship, valued at $500, is awarded to a grade 12 graduate student of CCHS who has been recommended by the Scholarship Committee of CCHS. The receiver will be selected by the Vulcan Healthcare Auxiliary in conjunction with the hospital staff.
Criteria for the applicant:
– has been accepted into a health related program at a post-secondary education institution;
– has graduated and received a high school diploma from CCHS in the year in which the award is applied for;
– must submit an essay (minimum of 1000 words) on “Health Care as a Career”; and
– will be judged on participation in other areas such as school activities and community activities.
Application Procedure:
1. Apply in writing to the principal of CCHS no later than August 31. State the scholarship you are applying for and your qualifications. Include proof of attendance at a post-secondary educational facility, a copy of your Grade 12 marks and your essay. If your are unable to provide this information with your application, please send it as soon as possible. Applicants CANNOT be considered for any scholarship unless all of the necessary information is received.

Dr. M. E. Koziol Memorial Fund
The fund was established in 2002, the year of Dr. Koziol’s passing. It recognizes high school students graduating from the County of Vulcan pursuing a career in medicine, nursing or health sciences. The scholarship is valued at approximately $450.
Criteria for the applicant:
- Medicine: This scholarship shall be awarded to graduates who have been accepted into a Canadian Facility of Medicine (confirmation of enrollment required).
- Third Year Nursing: In the event there are no applicants meeting the above criteria, this scholarship shall be awarded to graduates entering their third year of an undergraduate degree program in nursing at a recognized Canadian institution (confirmation of enrollment required).
- First Year Pre-med or Nursing: In the event there are no applicants meeting the above criteria, this scholarship shall be awarded to graduates accepted into either:
- an undergraduate degree program intended as pre-med. This would be indicated by course selections heavily weighted towards biology, chemistry, physics, biochemistry, physiology, English, mathematics and psychology (confirmation of enrollment required); or
- a nursing program (degree or diploma) at a recognized Canadian institution (confirmation of enrollment required).
- Health Sciences: In the event there are no applicants meeting the above criteria, this scholarship shall be awarded to graduates accepted into health care related studies at a recognized Canadian institution (confirmation of enrollment requited).
In the event more than one applicant qualifies, the Vulcan Healthcare Auxiliary has the authority to select the individual they feel exhibits an outstanding attitude. The Auxiliary also has the authority to decide to share the scholarship equally.
